Rocks

Dead Sea Rock - I collected this rock from the Dead Sea at Ein Gedi, in 1976. It has
the pitted appearance of igenous lava rock, but it is not at all brittle. In fact,
it is surprisingly hard, so that even the tiny villi-like fingers haven't broken
off over the years. I strongly suspect it is travertine, else some heavily calcified
"marlstone," a mixture of mudstone, calcite and aragonite.
