Chalcopyrite is commonly called Peacock Ore, or peacock pyrite because of it's
brassy green and purple coloring. It is a copper iron sulfide mineral that crystallizes
in the tetragonal system. It has the chemical composition CuFeS2. Even though it feels
heavy and hard this mineral is actually quite fragile. Found often as the primary
mineral in igneous rocks, it could be found in hydrothermal veins, and sometimes
in limestone or sediments. Chalcopyrite has hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
On exposure to air, chalcopyrite oxidises to a variety of oxides, hydroxides and sulfates.
This shiny iridescent mineral is an important ore of the copper industry
